(top

young lady was having a grand time modeling.
Her initial
pose was rather stiff, but when I asked her
to move around a bit more, she happily obliged.
The light from a nearby window beautifully
lit
her.
(top middle) I
spent a minute or so staring at an enlargement of
this photo and quickly realized I was getting a
bit light-headed.
The man actually is traversing an ordinary flat floor.
But it is the floor's design, paired with the walking
man, that really throws off the viewer's perception.
(top
right) We had been photographing
in the bedroom at this young girl's house. I wanted
a more
stark location, so we headed for the basement. I
set up a simple bounce flash and asked her to stare
into
the camera. Back at my office, I relit and colored
the image in Photoshop.
(bottom

the sun was hitting the waves and producing some
beautiful
highlights. I knew the water would be a perfect backdrop
for some silhouette photos. I think the two people
as well as the football stand out wonderfully against
this
background.
(bottom
middle) I love the intensity
of "red" in
this photo. Three strobes were used for illumination.
Each was fitted with a grid spot, which is a device
that narrows
the light beam's angle and gives the photographer
significantly more control in lighting a scene.
One strobe was angled
down to light her head and dress, another one,
on full power, lit her very black bodice, and the
third one
skimmed the back two walls.
(bottom
right) I spent several hours in
a subway recently, photographing all sorts of goings-on.
The activity
taking place both on and off the trains was amazing
and frantic. These folks, however, seemed oblivious
to everything
around them, including a train speeding by no more
than a few feet away. |
